BIOGRAPHY

She was born in 1985 in Nicosia, Cyprus. She was a student at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki between 2004-2009, where she has earned her Fine Arts degree with honours from the Faculty of Fine Arts, School of Visual and Applied Arts. She was supervised under the guidance of K. Mortarakos and G. Tsakiris, and had Painting as her chosen direction. In 2007 she left for Spain after receiving an Erasmus scholarship at the Universidad de Bellas Artes, where she had stayed for a year. She is currently living and working in France.

The title of my latest project is “Empirical Situations” and I have been working on it since 2007.
Most of my work has been influenced by experiences that I have gained during my journeys around the world as well as from personal experiences, memories, moments, dreams and personal truths. I enjoy experimenting with different materials that have already been used for another purpose. Paper functions as my personal diary. In these compositions I have tried to “marry” word with painting.

It all began during my stay in Spain, when “Codico Civil” (Spain’s Civil Code) came to my reach. As a consequence I created a series of paintings on canvas, where certain laws of Spain’s Civil Code had been printed, on which I interfered artistically, through a personal view, using clear or less clear symbolisms. It all comes down to an artistic imprint of the search for an identity, through existential quests of the subconscious, the mental world and imagination, through human rights, fears, obsessions, neuroses of desperation. All these urged me to act in a more playful mood, which led to creations of plaster feet, which are installed, bringing to memory various identities as well as different time moments and situations. I therefore use feet as the representation of a main means of this quest; they constitute for me the power of freedom.
